Annabel Hammer Acupuncture

Fertility

I am an experienced fertility acupuncturist where I have supported both women and men since 2012 on their path to parenthood for both natural conception and assisted reproduction such as IVF, IUI and OI.

The aim of fertility acupuncture is to support natural fertility by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, supporting the endometrial lining and regulating the menstrual cycle by supporting hormonal balance.

I support women by optimizing their menstrual health where I will look to improve aspects such as menstrual flow, pain, cycle length and irregularities, ovulation & PMT.

I encourage my clients to chart their cycle by tracking their basal body temperature (BBT) to help them understand their fertile window and cervical changes, spot irregularities and hormonal fluctuations, as well as provide useful information from a Traditional Chinese Medicine viewpoint.

For men, improved blood flow reaches the testes for sperm health and we can monitor sperm parameters such as sperm count, morphology and motility after a 3 month period of treatment.

Women will often present to the clinic with a Western diagnosis such as PCOS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, along with complications such as repeated implantation failures and recurrent miscarriage and I will work to assist you through these challenges, along with working in a complementary way with your relevant caregivers.

Acupuncture is often recommended by fertility specialists as it becomes more recognized as an excellent adjunct to IVF, improving outcomes and also helping manage the side effects of the medications.

Through acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, lifestyle and dietary changes I have observed improvements in my patients health of their reproductive system as well as their general wellbeing and ability to cope with stress during what is an incredibly challenging time.

Frequently Asked Questions

3 months is the ideal time frame where patients ideally come weekly, or fortnightly if this is more feasible. We are then able to chart progress over three cycles.

If you have been given a medical diagnosis such as PCOS, Endometriosis, Amenorrhea (absent periods), Metrorrhagia (heavy periods) Dysmenorrhea (painful periods), we may require more time.

It is useful to have acupuncture prior to commencing treatment for approximately 3 months to prepare the body as best as possible. However, often patients come to see me much later in the process either soon to, or during IVF. I am still happy to assist you and we can work together through each stage and discuss the appropriate time to come during your cycle.

I have often arranged to see patients before and after the embryo transfer, however I am reluctant to recommend this if it is going to lead to further stress on the day. We can work together on what works best for you.

I am happy to see patients in the two week wait to help relieve stress over this period, particularly if there is a history of miscarriage. However, I do not push treatment over this period and work with what the patient is comfortable with.
